The Headless Horse Man (Conall)

In a remote town in the country in Scotland there lived a boy called Lee. Lee lived with his kind uncle called Paul. Lee and Paul had many friends, but there was one friend who was a little strange. The friend’s name was Pat the local butcher. Lee liked hearing Pat’s stories about a man riding a horse. Paul liked to call Pat’s story the headless horseman. One day Paul was buying some meat from Pat. Paul noticed a scar on Pat’s arm. “Where did you get that” said Paul. Pat stuttered “I was struck b..y the headless horseman.” Paul chuckled but not for long. That afternoon Pat died. Everyone in the village was at the funeral. Lee noticed a black figure standing on top of the hill. On the day before Halloween, late in the afternoon Lee went to get some milk. When Lee came out he saw the same black figure. Only this time he was riding a horse with black hair and blood red eyes. Lee thought he was seeing things. So Lee walked off. But the figure followed him. The Lee started to run and the horseman galloped.

Lee sprinted back to his house and slammed the door and locked it. “Where is Paul” he whispered. Then something pulled Lee. “Paul” Lee said with delight. Paul whispered to Lee “that’s the headless horseman”. Paul knew how to get rid of the horseman. “Follow me” Paul whispered. They went out of the house and ran up to the graveyard. “Stay here” said Paul and he went off. Lee saw the horseman. The horseman reached into his cloak and pulled out a sword and the horseman charged at Lee. Lee yelled “help” and Paul shouted back “run to me”. Lee ran as fast as his legs would carry him.

When Lee came to Paul they were in the oldest part of the graveyard. The horseman came over the hill and galloped to Lee and Paul. “s should we run?” Lee stuttered. Then the horseman banged into a gravestone and then mist filled the air and the horseman turned into a man again. As the man drew his last breath he uttered “thank you”. After that his body turned into black dust. “We did it Lee” said Paul proudly.

The Witches (Shauna)

Jenny jumped out of bed as soon as her alarm went off. It was Saturday, it was Jenny’s birthday, and of course, it was Ireland. As soon as Jenny opened her curtains, it was pouring rain, as usual. Jenny put on her denim jeans, her green top with flowers on it, her green trainers and her colour faded belt. Jenny ran down the stairs while yawning. As soon as she reached the bottom of the stairs, thoughts started flooding through her mind. Thoughts of witches, goblins and ghosts. ”Oh My Gosh” Jenny thought to herself. “It’s Halloween. How could I have forgotten?” Jenny skipped into the kitchen. “Morning Mum! Morning Dad!” Jenny hummed happily. “Morning love!” Mum and Dad replied together. “And happy birthday!” “Thanks.” Jenny hummed. Mum turned around and started making something. Jenny tried to see what it was but whenever she moved, Mum moved too but in a way that Jenny couldn’t see what it was. Then after a minute or two, Mum turned around with a plate in her hands. On the plate was two homemade pancakes with chocolate syrup and a chopped banana on the side. Stuck in middle of the pancake was a pink candle saying “Happy Birthday”. The writing was on the side of the candle. It was a bit faded but you could still make out what it said. “Wow!” gasped Jenny. “That looks delicious!” “Thanks” replied Mum. Jenny ate every bite of her pancakes. They tasted delightful. “Thanks Mum they were lovely!” anwsered Jenny. “No problem Jenny.” replied Mum. Then Dad piped up. “Jenny, don’t you have your disco tonight? Then Jenny remembered. She was going to the local disco that was on every Halloween for teenagers. Her best friend, Aoife was going to the disco and Jenny was going to meet her there. “Oh My Gosh!” gasped Jenny. “I completely forgot about the disco! Thanks Dad for reminding me!” And as fast as you could say “Disco” Jenny was out the door. The disco was only a few minutes away so Jenny walked there. As soon as Jenny arrived at the disco she walked in and straight away she saw Aoife. “Hi Aoife!” hummed Jenny. “Hi Jenny!” replied Aoife. “Did the disco start yet?” asked Jenny. “No, not yet.” replied Aoife. “It’s starting in ten minutes.” “Oh ,ok. sighed Jenny. Suddenly, the lights went off. Everyone and everywhere were silent. Then everyone heard a voice saying “Sorry, I leaned against the switch.” Everyone sighed in relief. So after a minute everyone started to talk. After a few minutes, the disco started. There was dancing, singing and much more. Then once again, the lights went off. But nobody stopped talking. They all thought that it was that guy that leaned on the switch was leaning on the switch again. But then in corner of her eye, Aoife saw the guy that leaned against the switch. He wasn’t beside the lights, he was on the dance floor. Which meant someone else was switching the lights off. “Hey Jenny,” whispered Aoife. “Yes?” replied Jenny. “Look, it’s the guy that leaned on the switch! By the way, I forgot to tell you, his name is Shane.” replied Aoife. “Anyway, Shane isn’t by the lights, so I wonder who turned the lights off? Then before Jenny could answer, everyone heard a blood screaming cackle .Then a figure appeared from where the lights were. The lights were in a platform attached to the ceiling. There were stairs leading up to the platform on both sides. “You are now under my power!” screamed the figure. The figure stepped closer. Everyone could now see what the figure looked like. She was a girl, at least they thought she was. She had green skin, covered with warts and spots and zits. She had black, scraggy hair. In her hair you could see a few, but not many white hairs. She was wearing a dress, mostly ripped. She had a few pieces of fabric sewed over some of the ripped parts. She was wearing no shoes, but she had a good few warts on her toes. “ Now you shall give me all of your money!” She waved her wand and everyone was hypnotized. So everyone started giving her their money. Everyone except Jenny and Aoife. Jenny and Aoife just about missed the beam of the witches wand. At least, they thought she was a witch. “ All hail the power of the mighty Irish witch!” screamed the witch. “So she is a witch.” whispered Aoife. Jenny nodded her head. “All hail the Irish witch.” muttered everyone that was hypnotized, mindlessly. Jenny and Aoife tried to make a run for it. They were right beside the door so they made it out. The witch was facing a different direction so she didn’t see them running out the door. When she turned around she saw them running away. The door was glass so she could easily see them running away. She tried to stop them with her wand but she couldn’t because the battery on her wand went dead. “No!!” howled the witch and in a second, turned to dust. Everyone that was hypnotized was no longer hypnotized because the witch was dead. But they didn’t remember what happened either. Jenny and Aoife kept running and they never spoke about that day again.

The End

The haunted house Conchúr (Conor)

Once upon a time, my cousin, Eoin and I were going trick-or-treating in Portlaoise. It was at nine o’clock in the evening. Before we had left home, I had asked my mother if we could go into the haunted house. At first, she didn’t know why we would dare step foot inside that house, but she eventually let us go in after a lot of talking and persuading. When we drove down we found out that the door at the front was locked, so we headed around the back. We found out that the back door was also locked. We kept on looking for a way in on both sides and we tried not to get split up. But then, I found a secret way in through a crack in an old side door. Eoin and I headed in. Just as we were about to explore, we heard a slight creak, we only thought of it as the old floorboards. Eoin and I were a bit tired, so we decided to sit down on the stairs. Suddenly, we heard a ferocious wailing noise. Eoin started to get a bit frightened but, I managed to calm him down and we headed for the hills. But, I had enough time to look back and I saw a huge old crow, flapping its wings about. I wasn’t sure which of us was more scared, the old crow or us.
